WHAT IS VISION THERAPY

Nurovision images-106_edited.png
Optometric Vision Therapy (neuro vision therapy) is neuro visual training. It’s a process including activities and exercises that someone does to improve the visual system/ visual processing, eye coordination,  and eye-brain-body connection through neuroplasticity.  This can be similar to physiotherapy, but specific to the eye and brain, and often using different types of lenses for therapeutic purposes. The emphasis is on improving the neurology and/or rehabilitating the brain to control the eyes/brain and body to work together optimally for maximum function.

Vision Therapy is helpful if the eyes aren’t coordinated, if there are vision processing problems, if there were interruptions in development, or if there was a Brain injury that disrupted the vision/brain/eye/body connection.

Vision Therapy is changing the brain through vision development.

  2. Neuroadaptive learning
  3. Perceptual learning
  4. Neurological vision development and rehabilitation
  5.  A treatment plan used to correct or improve specific dysfunction of the vision system includes:
    • strabismus
    • amblyopia
    • accommodation (focusing)
    • oculomotor dysfunction & visual-perceptual-motor abilities

WEEKLY VISION THERAPY

Weekly Vision Therapy is the most common type of vision therapy program. These programs are typically 24 to 48 weeks long depending on the condition and what is prescribed by the doctor. Weekly programs are typically necessary for success with Vision and Learning concerns, Concussion and Brain Injury cases, Visual Skills, and Sports Vision Training. These are based on a curriculum of activities and exercises that are learned on a weekly basis, one on one with a vision therapist. During the week there are 20 minutes of daily vision therapy homework to practice.

Progress is assessed approximately every 3 months during therapy and overseen by the prescribing doctor.

We use NeuroDevelopmental Movement® (NDM) to replicate the developmental sequence to develop the neurological foundations needed for vision and visual function.
NeuroVision Clinic is the only vision therapy system using NeuroDevelopmental Movement® (NDM) for neurovisual development.

RESULTS IN VISION THERAPY

Studies show that success in vision therapy depends on an appropriate program prescribed by the optometrist and on an individual's cooperation, participation and motivation.
