OUR WHY

Dr. Mueller founded NeuroVision because of her own life experience with Binocular Vision Dysfunction.
"When I was in grade 3, I started having trouble reading. The words would swim on the page, I’d lose my place and skip lines. My eyes and head would ache, and I felt nauseous. I figured that this was normal and how reading was for everyone. I didn’t know why I was so much slower than everyone else, and why it was so hard for me to understand what I read. I didn't know I had a Binocular Vision Dysfunction.

Coping strategies became my only way of getting through. It wasn’t until I was in university that it took me up to 10 hours to get through a chapter in my textbook that I discovered this was a binocular vision dysfunction. My vision would blur in and out, and go double even though I had 20/20 vision.

Later in life, I experienced a head injury. I know what it feels like to suffer from light and sound sensitivity while being too dizzy and nauseous to walk or drive. I know what it was like not being able to tolerate seeing things like traffic moving around me or watching TV.  And I know that a better way is possible."

In 2016, Dr. Mueller dedicated her practice to help guide people with Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) and brain injury to uncover higher potential.

HOW HEADACHES AFFECT YOUR DAY TO DAY FUNCTIONING

Living with headaches or migraines can feel overwhelming and may impact your ability to work, socialize, or even enjoy simple moments. They can transform ordinary tasks into monumental challenges, interfering with your everyday activities. Whether it’s at work or home, these painful episodes can dampen your energy and affect your mood.

If you find that headaches and migraines interfere with your daily activities, you’re not alone. At NeuroVision Clinic, we understand how debilitating headaches and migraines can disrupt your daily life.
Common vision-related headaches:
  1. Eye Strain: Staring at screens or reading for long periods can fatigue eye muscles, leading to tension headaches around the eyes, forehead, or temples.

  2. Uncorrected Refractive Errors: Nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism force your eyes to work harder to focus, which can cause headaches and blurry vision.

  3. Eye Misalignment: An unaligned or misaligned eye requires extra effort to see a single image, leading to eye strain, headaches, and sometimes double vision.

  4. Digital Eye Strain: Prolonged use of digital devices is a common cause of eye strain, headaches, dry eyes, and blurred vision.

Other connections:
  1. Migraines: Migraines can cause visual disturbances called auras, which may include seeing flashing lights, zigzag lines, or even a "kaleidoscope" pattern, before or without a headache.

  2. Brain conditions: In rare cases, a brain tumour or a traumatic brain injury (like a concussion) can affect the visual system and cause headaches, along with blurry or double vision.

  3. Inflammation: Conditions like giant cell arteritis cause inflammation in arteries, including those supplying the eye, which can lead to a throbbing headache in the temples and vision loss.
